Ocean & Beaches
We will begin our science and social studies units soon by exploring oceans and beaches!
Please send in a photograph of your child at the beach if you have one. I would like to help them make a personal connection to this topic!
Life Skills Unit

Welcome back to a wonderful and fantastic school year! We are starting out with our life skills unit. We will be discussing the importance of self care and independence.
8 Big Planets
However for the purpose of our science project we learned that there are 8 big planets. One of the stories we read talked about 9 planets. However the more that scientisits discover the more we learn! Please note that the song flowed better when we had 9 planets but we have to change with the times. Even if change is hard.
Here is our Solar System Song! Sung to the tune of Ten Little Indians.

What we’ve been up to!!!
I’ve been a bit behind on updating our blog. Please accept my sincere apologies. However, it is only because we have been so busy!!!!
We have a new subscription to a publication called News 2 You!* It’s a wonderful way for us to address many of the areas in our science and social studies curriculum. To get you caught up we have worked on the following during our literacy / language arts portion of our day.
- Water for Africa
- Kids Choice Awards
- Monsters vs. Aliens
- Braille Coin (We are starting this one after we return from Spring Break!)

Braille Coin
I’m sure you have seen some of the copies of these news articles come home. We also extend on these topics during science/social studies as well as during math. If you would like to learn more about the North Carolina Extended Content Standards Curriculum please feel free to check out the NCDPI Website!
*For those students who require sign language or braille modifications we have provided them. However, those resources stay at school with us so we can continue to use them to reinforce the literacy / language arts objectives.
The Water Cycle Song
We have been learning about the water cycle. We have done experiments this week to learn the vocabulary for this unit: warm, evaporate and condense. Below you will find a copy of the water cycle song.
Lyrics written by Deena Fahy. Sung to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”.
